Nintendo Forever

If you read my first blog post it should come as no surprise to you that I am a big Nintendo fan and have been my whole life. I have owned every major Nintendo console that has come to market in the US except the Virtual Boy. One of these days I may still end up buying one just to complete my collection. Nintendo, like many companies have had its shares of ups and downs, but they always try to do best by their fans.

Switch Console

The Nintendo Switch launched on March 3, 2017. This console is a hybrid console with the ability to play as a home console (hooked up to a tv) and a handheld console (one you can play on the go). I had high hopes that this console would turn around the misfortunes the WiiU system brought to the company. I was thrilled when it became the fastest selling console ever in the US, out-pacing the PS4, Xbox One, Wii, PS3, and all other systems sold before. It has quickly become one of my favorite Nintendo consoles and has some amazing games on it such as: Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Fire Emblem Warriors, and more.

The best thing about the Nintendo Switch is the library of games is building at an incredible rate. Nintendo consistently puts out great first-party titles and has partnerships with many other developers to expand the content of games on the Switch. Today, was a fantastic day for Nintendo fans as some major announcements were made. Periodically, Nintendo releases pre-recorded videos on YouTube of news about the company, new games, and new services. This is a great way to show their fans what projects are currently being worked on. Today’s Nintendo Direct delivered in a big way as numerous new announcements were made.

Some of the major announcements were:

  • Brand new Luigi’s Mansion 3 as a working title for the Switch
  • Port of Super Mario U and Super Luigi U to the Switch on 1.11.19
  • Details on the new online service that will contain NES classic games to play
  • New Katamari Damacy Reroll for Switch
  • Game Freak (developer of Pokémon) is making a new game called Town
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World got its title and a launch window of Spring 2019
  • Tabletop games are coming to the Switch including Catan & Munchkin
  • Square Enix is bringing a plethora of older Final Fantasy games to the Switch
  • Special edition Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch Bundle
  • Isabelle from Animal Crossing added as a Super Smash character
  • Animal Crossing’s next major installment is coming to the Switch in 2019

And that was just some of the bigger announcements! As a fan of many of these franchises, I was super happy to hear about what all is in store for Nintendo and its fans in the near future. From today, I am most excited about Yoshi’s game getting a launch window, Animal Crossing getting a major release next year, and tabletop games going to the Switch! I am sure we will be visiting many Nintendo titles in the future as I already have Let’s Go Pikachu, Super Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate preordered and I can’t wait to share my thoughts on those titles with you when they release.

Is there anything coming out for the Nintendo Switch that you are excited to play? Was there an announcement from today that surprised you? I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Super Mario U and Super Luigi U, Katamari Damacy, Luigi’s Mansion remake, Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, and 10-2, Carcassonne, Catan… NES Classic Subscription… It’s so hard to get excited about all these games we already have! I mean, cheers on Nintendo for bringing them all to one platform, but it’s bittersweet. I maaaaay pick up Katamari Damacy for the motion controls.

I seriously expected Final Fantasy 7 to show up on Wii U years ago when we got Cloud Strife in Smash instead of Terra, Locke, Cecil, or Geno.

I’m definitely looking forward to Yoshi’s Crafted World; Stephie and I played through… most of… Yoshi’s Wooly World. Hm, we need to go back and finish that! Town is intriguing–after all, the last NEW RPG Game Freak worked on was called Pokemon Red and Blue!

My body is ready for a new Animal Crossing. Steph kept saying “Time sink! Time sink.” I think she got a little bit burnt out on Pocket Camp.

    Smash goes without saying.

    1. Hey Josh! I agree that it is bittersweet on the remake/re-releases, I definitely think they should be cheaper than normal. One I am happy about is Catan. Adam and I use to play Catan a lot on the Xbox 360, but they never did a version for the Xbox One.

I’m happy to see Final Fantasy games heading back to Nintendo; it’s been a long time coming. I’m hoping that means Kingdom Hearts 3 will make an appearance on the Switch in the future.

If Yoshi’s Crafted World supports online multiplayer, then I will definitely play with you and Steph! I’m excited about Game Freak’s new game too, it has been too long since we’ve had truly new content from them.

I’m sorry to hear Steph got a little burnt out on Animal Crossing! I actually sent her a message on FB as soon as I saw the new one announced. I still have pictures on my 3DS from our 4th of July we spent together in the game 🙂 I never played the Pocket Camp version, but am super excited for the Switch version so I can play with you guys and Beth again!!

  2. I have a (what I call because it is soooooo old) original Nintendo Console with Mario and a duck hunting game, and I still play all the time. I do not know much about gaming systems because I do not keep up. (Like, I still play my Gameboy and original Xbox.)

    1. Like many industries, the gaming industry is constantly changing; it can be hard to keep up with everything. But there’s nothing like the classics and some of my favorite games are older!

  3. I totally agree with you there is nothing like the classics game , in fact the only games i have ever played in Nintendos are super mario and pokeman but the old version because I think that new games lack of originality as the old ones

    1. For sure! Video game technology evolves just as fast as every other type so it’s always cool to see the latest and greatest advancements. I may do a blog on that in the future 🙂 Thanks for the idea!
